Business Fashion & The Women’s Power Suit

Without a power suit today, the wardrobe of a woman is nothing less than incomplete. The trend of power suit among women is growing with every blink of an eye. And why shouldn’t it be? You need to look the way you feel! If you’re confident enough to stand out in the crowd, you can’t end up in a casual daily wear dress but nothing less than a power suit.

The icon, Hilary Clinton is a living example of a lady standing out different and she has made power suite a signature for herself. Whenever one calls out Hilary Clinton, you never think of her in a casual daily wear but a power suit. It is today regarded as one of the most strongest and bold looks adopted by women.

The Power SuitBut as one is moving forward, one realizes that although the power suit trend is on a rise, it is being taken more to a casual side by altering the hues and colors and patterns and designs. For instance, Michelle Obama favors more vivid patterns and hues which one might not append with the traditional dark and serious hues and colors. But then that is what the trend of power suit is all about; entering the professional world with a constant change. The power suits of today give the women a more trendy and sexy look with all seriousness.

However it was not always so. Just like struggle for freedom of speech, the women section of the society has struggled for the right to wear what they want. In the 1870s, the female phone operators were the first ones to come up with the power suits when they traded men’s style white shirts. Women continued their fight to wear pants in a professional context for nearly a century. For a brief moment during World War II, Rosie the Riveter types were permitted to wear. But when the war was over, Rosie had to slip back into her old dresses. Trousers would not become a professional staple for women until the early 1990s, when they finally appeared on the House and Senate floors.

How to choose a perfect power suit?

  • First of all look out for a classic color like black or navy or charcoal.
  • The most important of all, the fit. There is no point in owning and wearing a suit that fits improperly. An ill-fitting suit comes across as sloppy and unprofessional.  One of the key mistakes women make is buying a suit whose jacket is the improper length.  The jacket should come in slightly at the sides and should extend slightly beyond the widest part of your body.
  • The style – pants suit or skirt suit, it depends upon personal preference. However the pant suits have got a bad reputation but then your choice of color may turn it look into a more flattering and feminine looking suit.

What was once characterized by big shoulders and a boxy torso has evolved, so that its essential quality is the ability to make a woman feel her most confident.
